Hmm, I'd probably want to get more info on it from more reliable sources - that one seemed very alarmist and OMGTHEGOVERNMENTISOUTTOGETUSOHNO (not that that's a bad thing, but too much conspiracy doesn't do much for your credentials)
Personally, I don't think that could work. There's no way I can see that they could spin it to make a licence to browse the internet plausable as anything other than a thinly veiled attempt at internet regulation.
And yes, they are trying to put up an internet block list in Australia, in theory to try and stop people accessing internet porn. Although the downside to their plan is that it won't take all that long for hackers to find a way around the blocks, and from there it's only a step away from being a totally useless and costly exerecise. in theory, it is a good idea, but the precedent it sets and the ability for it to be misused is not something that is conductive of free speech.

i know its a little be too OMGTHEGOVERNMENTISOUTTOGETUSOHNO i was just wondering at the thought if they really did do it i have videos of people in brittion/Europe opening saying there working on it, saying that it is for tarriest and perves but really, think about it. they have a whole load of stuff in th air ports (body scanners, strip search, dogs etc) and they havent found a single thing, but in the process we have lost our right to privacy. What makes you think this is any different? "Thoughs who trade rights for protection, deserve none" here i found another one, this time its not to much OMGTHEGOVERNMENTISOUTTOGETUSOHNO newsmax.com/Headline/obama-internet-iana-united/2010/01/31/id/348514

When I got to fingerprint scanners, I gave up. Maybe 0.1% of the internet contains criminals, but not all of it does. I can't see the UK actually doing this... But then again, I didn't read the whole article.

I pray every day that our society won't get this far. I don't think it will but the risk is always there... the internet is the last free "nation" on earth, and we have to fight to protect that.

We could always go on a strike sort of thing in the case that it does happen. x3 Be like, "We won't use the net unless it's free and usable for all!" Besides, the governments must be smart enough to realize that people aren't just going to complete submit to them. x3 We enjoy our freedom...
