It was so cold, everyone left me. They chose me to be left behind…as a sacrifice. My name is Kirah and this is my story, about a dragon who is hidden in plane view. You’ll know what I’m saying later much later. But I am a princes, youngest out of my four sisters, 24 really. Yeh I know ‘your not married yet?‘ don’t ask that. That’s long story too. Any way I was the tomboy of my sisters, when they were playing with there hair I was in mud or jumping from windows into the hay. And because they needed a sacrifice and normally its some kind of royalty they picked me, lets face it I didn’t like being a princes in the first place, but I did like living but this wasn’t my choice.
Well here I am, stuck to these chains. I’m so scared I see bones of sacrifices from a few months ago. In a cave that is so dark, yet so vast. I don’t remember how long I was there but I was wishing after a while that the dragon would just eat me now, I was so tired of every little sound being so loud. I swear I could hear a roach eat things from the floor.
Then a noise, it was like scratching… ‘bats again’ I thought, then a red glow! It got brighter as well with the foot steps getting louder, I could make out teeth. ‘The dragon’. Eyes glowing the smell of rotten flesh in its breath, the smell of the animals it takes from my village no less I’m sure…or once village. It got so close to me, just breathing its red eyes just staring. I couldn’t tell if I just got tired of waiting for death or what but something made me mad.
“Well arnt you gonna eat me? Been waiting here for ever scared to hell and back, and yet you make me wait more!? For a dragon you sure are-”
“WATCH YOUR TOUNG!”
Nothing made me shut up so fast as that voice, its as if he could bring down the cave we where in with it. It also cought me off guard because, I thought dragons lost there ability to talk a long time ago after there war. That’s another story but still. Even if he couldn’t talk, still scared me. I gave him such a glare though, I could tell the dragon was looking me up and down.
“A princess? Why did they give me humans? I’ve eaten better rotting carcasses than you .”
“You have a problem with eating people?” This was turning to be quite odd, a dragon talking to his food I don’t get why he didn’t kill me in the first place.
“Yes… there chewy and taste dirty. And with a princess you would just taste like chewy perfumey, dirt I suppose.” He went to turn around I could tell cause his glow from his mouth turned around.
“Wait where are you going? You can’t just leave me here!”
“Oh and why not? Your of no use” For a princess to hear that was just rude, but you can’t argue with a fire breathing lizard “I…I could be of service to you? You kill and steal things something must need cleaning, no?”
“You? A princesses, clean?” I think he almost laughed, but I didn’t say anything because I like living. “What kind if cleaning or ANY work could YOU possibly do?”
Well I hung there, thinking, ‘well he does have a point, what CAN I do?’ “Well I can cook, a little…”
“Such as?”
“Pies and tea”
“Tea!” As if he hasn’t heard of that word before. But the next thing I know the chains break, and I'm floating in air, or I think I did I wasn’t touching ground that’s for sure.
It took me a while to figure out I was wrapped in the dragons tail, I couldn't tell ok, It was dark.! But It seemed like forever, we were going up and down a trail turning lefts ad rights. I was going to say he was lost, but then he might have eaten me right there then instead of making me wait, oh joy.
“Are we there yet?” I tried to say that as nice as I could.
“Yes, actually” Looked around and still saw black, then I saw a white light. Can’t really tell there's a cave opening when your riding back, you know?
But we were out side, a bit cool, but other than that it was ok. “Where are we?”
“My home of coarse, are all humans this slow on answers? Ask more questions than anything else”
“Well sorry I’m kinda backwards here!” He snorted, a bit angry at that remark but he let me go. I got a better look around. “Wow…” The sky was, so blue, almost sapphire. And there where flowers everywhere! There were so many different colors with azaleas, daisies, laurels and such. A small water fall near another cave opening made its small river which wrapped it self around the field. It was like being in a bowl though; rock spikes came from the sides, guarding the garden it seems. Apparently we where on a mountain, I could tell because…well I don’t know really but I was sure. “This is where you live?” Still looking around.
“What?” The dragon turned around a bit put off by the remark “What do you mean by that? Yes I live here!”
“I didn’t mean it like th-”
“Oh I see, no you think dragons live in horrible caves filled with bones of are enemies, huh?”
“No your not listening, now just stop!” Surprisingly, he did stop and I don’t know why. “I meant it in a good way, I didn’t think something this beautiful could be up here”
He grunted a bit in thought while looking around, “Well,” then turned around, I thought he was going to say something nice for once “well stay on the path.” ‘what?’ I gave him a nice complement on his home, and er that aggravated my princess side of me.
“Why stay on the path? The flowers are so pretty, I wouldn’t mind walking throu-”
“DON’T even think of walking through thoughs flowers!” I think I lost three years of my life after that scare, he turned so quick and snapped at me.
After that ordeal, I began to relies the dragon more. His eyes were normal now, not glowing anymore. They were a shiny gold. It looked like he use to have red scales but, now it's a dingy color with blotches of brown an slime on him. He had a pair of horns as most dragons normally do, and for smaller ones on his jaw. Along with that he had sails or spikes with skin between them I guess that's how you would describe them, anyway they went down his back. But he had some pretty shredded wings. I couldn't help but notice that after all these years if being attacked by this dragon in my village, I never really took a good look at him. But how could you when your spending time taking cover from its fire?
Near that water fall there was a cave, remember? Well that’s his home entrance apparently I guess that garden is his front lawn. We took a right and there was the messiest kitchen I’ve ever seen! Stuff every where! A few broken plates there, a few old bones there it was, bad lets leave it at that.
“Make me some tea.”
“What?”
“You said you knew how to make tea,” He grabbed a kettle from a broken cabinet. It was a pretty kettle to, blue with gold rings round it, I don’t know how it made it through the mess. “now, make tea”
“Quite rude arnt we?”
“Hmm your right, well I guess I’ll eat at home today, yes?” ‘Dirty dragon thinking of eating me! I’ll show him I can make tea.’
“All right. So, where’s the water and the tea leafs?”
“How should I know? I don’t know how to make tea” He chuckled to him self, I didn’t like that it was kind of evil.
“Wuts all tat rukut?” A little white mouse no bigger than my hand, scurried up onto the table tops.
“A rat!” The dragon didn’t like how I said ‘rat’ apparently.
“You say ‘rat’ like it’s a bad thing. Its just Muru the mouse”
The rat stood up striate and puts its hands on its furry hips, I found it quite cute really now that I think of it.
“Tank you Rahmal, I prefar ‘mouse’ vary mach” She had quite a strong ascent about her with her attitude.
“That’s your name, Rahmal?” It seemed like a weird name for a dragon but I guess it needs some kind of a name I suppose. “I’m Sorry about calling you ‘rat’. You just came out of no where”
“Yes yes that’s all nice but lets move on to my tea, yes?” Rahmal was getting impatient, whats to important about some ol’ tea anyway, its just tea.
“Oh your dinnahs making us tea, how lovely! Hows I help yeh with findins some tea leafs, Miss…er?
“Kirah, and thank you, but please don’t call me his dinner.” For a rat, oops I mean mouse she sure has some manners, unlike someone I know.
“Well if you insist on being friends with my soon to be servant, I guess I’ll be on my way”
“Servant!?”
“Well yes, if you can cook and clean as you said, why not? Unless you want to be a snack?” That darn smile after he said that, it was as if he was having fun with torturing me. Dirty dragon.

After a while me and Muru found some tea leafs in a old cabinet which was in a small room to the right of the large kitchen. I found it quite strange that they were there but covenant. I saw some other spices around but I would have liked to have got a better look around but, I had to make tea for a impatient dragon. Muru found me a bucket for the water.
“Muru” I was almost done, its really not that hard to make tea.
“Yes dear?”
“Can you get the dragon to make us a fire? I don’t think he’ll listen to his ‘servant’.”
“Ay, I’ll see wut I kin do” That little mouse, I got to know her a little better while looking around this cave. I’m happy I have some nice company, even if it is a talking mouse.
“Oi Rahmal! We need yur fire tah make yah tea dear”
“I would think if she could make tea, she would know how to make a fire.”
“Well apparently not, so weh need yur help. Unless yur don‘t wan’ tea?” He gave it a thought, and decided to help out with a little fire. I didn’t have much to make a fire with but some grass. I was afraid to walk onto the garden to look for more, never know what that dragon might do. But I guess grass will do. I'm glad I was doing something easy. Its hard to mess up tea. My life lies in this tea, hope he likes it. I don’t like the idea of being a servant but I dislike being eaten even more. Maybe after a while, I can find a way to escape.
Rahmal made the fire, and while I waited for the water to boil I asked him. “Is there more of this cave of yours?”
“Of coarse, why wouldn’t there be?”
“Well so far I only know the kitchen and the field of flowers” He snorted in thought for some reason don’t ask me why.
“There is tunnel near the entrance I hope you know, you had to have passed it”
“Well, yes” I said. Muru was minding her business while rummaging in the storage room gawking about all the spices she didn’t know was there and could have used.
“That is the main tunnel of coarse,” The dragon I guess finely figured out what was in the tunnel. “the main tunnel, has seven rooms four of which carries my sorted treasure three are traps and a room with nothing. The room with nothing ‘might’ be your room.”
He said ‘might’ as if it’s a challenge to make tea, I still don’t get what’s so big about it but what ever. But anyway finely the tea was done! About time huh?
“About time indeed.” How impolite that dragon. Well I gave him the tea in some of the largest cups I ever seen, just right for a dragon I suppose. He drank it not saying a word.
“Well? How’d sha do?” If you haven figured it out yet Muru hates to wait. But the dragon took a big sigh, moved some dirt around thinking.
I couldn’t stand it! “Come on all ready! Are you going to eat me or what! Tell me your darn answ-”
“Stay”
“Wha?”
“I gave you your answer and I said ‘stay’ how hard is that to understand?” He got off and started walking “Now fallow me.”
“Ay, glad your staying, I twas gettin’ bored of talkin’ to tat dragon all day. Looks like he wants yah to fallah hem, bests beh goin’ ”
“Uh ok” I was still in disbelief, I don’t know why it was just tea. Maybe it was how the dragon reacted, he just said ‘stay’ it wasn’t all like ‘I have decided you will STAY!’ kind of thing. It was, I cant explain it.
Well I fallowed him, a corner here a up hill there which I found it weird for a cave but what ever. But apparently we got to ‘my room’ he said.
“Now don’t forget how you got here, hate for you to get lost in a simple maze. Now you will clean up my cave and the-”
“Clean up your cave! This thing is huge, how do you expect me to do all that?”
“That was are agreement, and that is not my problem that is yours. Anyway I would like it to be presentable by next week for guests”
“Guests? You mean you actually have friends?” Sorry but I found it funny apparently he didn’t.
“Of Coarse I do! You think a dragon doesn’t know a creature or two? Now before I’m interrupted again, there will be three guests coming for tea. I did not know how to make tea, nor did I like showing them my untidy cave, so that is the only reason I keep you.” I couldn’t help but think ‘gee thanks’ at the time. So I guess if it wasn’t for that I could be dead then? Oh well I didn’t say anything, I was just hoping he would leave me so I could sleep.
Glad he did after telling me about how the tea blah blah blah I drowned it out, I was staring at the pile of hay with the thought of not being able to wait any longer to lay in it, even if it was just hay. I fell into that pile as if… how should I put this? Well I don’t know but I was darn tired! Being sacrificed, dragons carrying me everywhere making tea and being there servant and all. Very hectic.
_________________________________________________
“Kirah.” ‘Ugh Muru leave me alone’ I just wanted to sleep. “Kirah, get up noaw, time t’stat yah chores dear.” Oh man chores, I forgot maybe if I just pretend that I was in a coma, maybe Muru would leave me alone
“Come on dear, tis nearly six! You can’t expect tah be let to slep all day now, ay?” I grunted awake, Muru was in the window sill that I didn’t know existed till now. Out side there was a golden glow among the hills of the mountain, the flowers where still shut up from the night. In fact once I looked around from the window, I noticed a lot of stuff that I didn’t know existed. I looked around, there was a dresser, of coarse no cloths. A shelf with nothing on it. And a few scattered shiny stones and coins. I might find more when I wake up some more.
“Its ‘bout time dear, thought ye’d slep th day awah.”
“Couldn’t have that now can we?” I said that in a quite sarcastic tone. Muru seem to take no notice.
“Ur chores Kirah, Rahmal’s been on mah hide all morning’ tah wake yeh for ‘em.” Got up to a headache, apparently I got up to fast then, ‘ow, cant that dragon wait? I guess he’s excited to use his new slave’
“Can’t I have, at lease breakfast first?”
“Non of tat naow, work first. You princesses might beh use teh being pampard tal day, walts every one worked. Well tat must hove been nice.” Yeh it was…
“Hmm fine, so what should I do first?”
“Well tat’s not up to mah but if it war, I would do tah kitchon first dear. Such a mess, it is. Can hardly find me tings thar.”
“What do you have in the kitchen” She was daydreaming I suppose cause all she could do was respond.
“Hmm, twot? Oh nevah mind, be on ur way noaw”
Well no need to get dressed I guess I will just ware my dress that I came with, I couldn’t help but sigh at the thought. I would get so filthy and it was so nice. Oh well. I didn’t know where to start so I started where Muru wanted me to, the kitchen. Well in the mitts of cleaning, I found a many of things. Broken and perfectly nice plates shoved the broken ones into a corner for later throw away, also a suit of armor, I didn’t want to open it afraid of what I would find if you know what I mean, put it in the corner too. a sink ‘wow really?’ I wouldn’t imagine a sink a sink big enough to clean plates big enough for dragon plates yet small enough for me to use easily it seems ‘How convenient’. Anyway, more cabinets and spices I arranged them so I would know where they all were, if one was to cook for a dragon I guess I need to know where everything’s at then, no?
Hours of cleaning and not only am I tired again and hungry, I haven’t seen tooth or claw of Rahmal. Now where could that dragon be? Maybe attacking a village some where, who knows? At least Muru could to was to keep me company. I sighed again, I was so lonely here by my self, if you ever wondered what’s it like to be alone in a dragons cave, cleaning his things, its very boring and the quiet can drive you quite mad. So in Stead of wondering where everyone was, I thought of home thinking that would help this um… cleaning? Meh oh well, did I ever tell you I was bad with words? If you haven’t noticed all ready. Yeh I know a little late but anyway.
My village, so beautiful. It was small, quaint, out in the middle of no where, which I liked very much so. Fields on the south side grew the best crops and herders on the west side raised the best animals. I say the best because that’s all I knew really. Town, there was a small market place, I played there most of the time. My adviser didn’t think so, he fallowed me everywhere when I was young and wanted to go out, such a clumsy person. There was a water fountain in the middle of the town, and another in my fathers garden. Each was a dragon the both breathed water of coarse. Use to get on the one in my dads garden, pretend I was flying like the town was in trouble and he came to save and he picked me to help him. I don’t know. No one played with me I had my imagination most of the time. Then there were also lions on the top of the church, I climbed to the top once and got on one to prove a dare from a group of kids I wasn’t a chicken. The adviser, ‘hehe’ I thought he would pass out with fear!
Hmm…hm! Interrupted thoughts. Some one was here.
“Ello servant, you hungry?” Dragon, thought as much. His echo sounded like he was carrying something big. Oh god I hope its not a cow! I just cleaned and I don’t think I could, ew the thought!
“Yes I suppose I am hungry, what did you bring me to cook then?”
“Bring you? I was hoping you would make something for me while you cooked for your self. Haven’t had a cooked meal in a while” ‘Yeh right, you ate nearly all the animals you charred in my village’
“Cook for you? You have fire breath make some your self!” He finally showed up after yelling at each other through the halls.
“And you intend to call me rude.”
“When have I called your rude” He had a bag between his wings, looked heavy. My second guess was stolen goods and treasure no less.
“Even if I was to cook for you, I have nothing to cook. What’s in the bag?”
“Nothing really just some things that found my fancy, whats it to you?”
“Ph, and you say I call you rude.” I think I made him smile.
“Your getting better at my games all ready.”
“There was a game?” Ah I see… I think.
He turned around, most likely to put his bag down some place. I went back to cleaning till I heard his return.
“Why are you still here? I’m sure there’s dirtier places than here by now.”
“I’m cleaning, that was I was told to do, where and what you never said.” He was staring at the knights armor.
“Hmm…yes indeed. Slave h-”
“Kirah.”
“What?” seems like I caught him off from what ever guard he was on.
“My name, its Kirah remember?”
“Oh well…yes. Anyway how about you stop cleaning here and come out side with me, its nearly two and I don’t suppose you’ve been out side, no?” I sighed in relief, finely I’m going to get out of this dark cave for a moment.
Well he told me to grab a bucket and we went out side. ‘Ah, I forgot what the sun looked like all ready’ it was wonderful. Flowers where all back in bloom.
“Thoughs.”
“Hm, what?” I didn’t notice that he stopped to look around.
“See thoughs plants over there?” He pointed at some thyme, now what’s that doing growing up here? “And over there.” Pointed to the other side of the path. “You may leave the path on one condition, that you ‘only’ pick the spices that grow here” He had a look on his face as if he had forgotten how to be nice or courteous.
“Thank you, but how do all these spices grow up here?”
“We arnt that high up, or you would freeze, no?”
“Well, no”
“Then if you can live up here so can they. This ground is very fertile…” I really have no idea where he was going with that, so I started drowning him out and started picking spices as an excuse to get closer to these weird blue flowers, they were all shut up. Strange plant indeed. Dragon looked offended that I wasn’t paying attention to his droning, he didn’t mind that I was poking around in the flowers instead of the spices.
“Really, that flower there… makes it possible for the rest to be up here.”
“Oi, oo left teh kitchon… e-gad is tat a armor!” Muru of coarse.
“Better return to your work.” He walked with me back to the cave, he was going to check up on his bag I suppose. “Don’t work your self to death, you can go out side anytime just remember my rules and there will be no problem.” Such a odd dragon, wonder why his scales are turning black and brown.
“I wont be seeing you till tomorrow maybe, so good night…Kirah”
_____________________________________________________
Nearly night fall on my third day here, I had nothing but some old bred I found, I had to dip that in water to be able to eat it. But anyway that’s not important I suppose. Today Rahmal said he was going to try to get some food for his guests. I told him I will cook what ever he brings. Apparently his guests that will be here tomorrow are a Lion, griffin and a elder dragon, all for tea. Rahmal claimed to have told me that all ready and seemed annoyed that I didn’t pay attention to him. ‘Well sorry I was tired’ can’t do much about that now. I wonder what was taking Rahmal so long? He left this morning you would think he would be back by now.
“No sign of the dragon, ay?” Muru and I where in my room looking out the window, I normally see the dragon entering across the window, lands in the middle of the field for some reason.
“Nope…”
“Bah don’t worry he’ll show up. Look the loonah flowahs are blomin’!” The louner flowers, they glowed in the moon. You know the strange blue flowers from before. Rahmal told me after I asked him a hundred times of asking. For a dragon, he sure tolerates me a lot, I noticed that. I wonder why?
“You like tem flowahs don’t cha?”
“You know I do.” I laughed, silly Muru.
“Well lets poss teh time.”
“With what.” Ignored, when she’s thinking its like she hears nothing else but her thoughts at times.
“Kitchons clean, halls de-grimed, bats cleared from the cave…”
“Oh, don’t remind me.” I got shivers from the bats, I heard something one night in my room. Well apparently I had a closet I found yesterday behind some stones. I went to look in there and a flood of bats every where I made such a noise. Rahmal came to see what was the noise was all about only to end up laughing. First time I made him laugh but not like I wanted to hear. It was more of a ‘haha you got bats in your hair’ laugh than a ‘haha Kirah your so funny’ you know? Well first time getting humiliated by a dragon. Anyway, tuning back to Muru.
“…but other than that its all done”
“I’m sorry what?”
“And oo get upset when I ignar ‘you’, humph.”
“Rahmal!” And food, cant forget the food, I don’t care if it is a cow this time and not gold treasures. I’ll cook anything I’m starving. Rahmal landed in the middle of the field like I told you he does. He had a large bag in his mouth. He gave me a look as I ran toward him, one of them weird dragon looks. He dropped the bag, “ Hungry are we?”
“Of coarse you silly dragon, you‘ve been starving me this whole time.” Rahmal chuckled, don’t know what’s so funny about starving the person that’s cleaning your cave! Oh well who cares, food! Flower some fresh sugar and other spices, breads, pastas, fruits and vegetables of all sorts…hmm don’t like veggies much but I guess a stew will do.
“Where did you get all of this? Er, I mean how many villages did you have to burn down to get all of this?” I guess he figured I was joking cause he seemed to think a bit on that one.
“Oh one or two of coarse. No!” He surprised me there.
“Ungrateful, can’t I do a nice thing without being accused of killing things or burning things?”
“Ah so you admit this is a nice thing?”
“I thought it would make you to quit your whining.” I was a bit taken’ back by that, he’s the one starving me I don’t live on one meal a week!
“Hey, you-”
“Oi look tat all lish now? My my what a bounteh! Rahmal you didn’t have to bring this much from the valleys” Muru came out and sized up the pile of food and such.
“Oh yes I did! Anything to make this human be quiet.”
“Ay thars no need far tat now is there?” Yeh really, that kind of hurt you know. Dirty dragon.
“Fine, but my guests will be here soon” I nearly forgot, so much so I sighed.
“What shal I cook them?” Like he had to ponder.
“Tea.” Really again with this tea? “And some cakes.” Well it’s a change at lease.
________________________________________________________
I had no time to place all the new food Rahmal had brought, so I just had him put it all in the pantry. The tea I had just enough for three big dragons, I’m sure that’s what the guests would have drank, of coarse with some left over, but that's not important . I was so glad there was a waterfall by the endurance of the cave, that’s just that less farther I have to go to get the water, it was a challenge though. The pots were huge enough to make the tea but I didn’t have the strength to hull a pot a little smaller than me (but not by much). So what I had to do was take a hundred trips with a smaller pot, it was a work out. Would be much easier if the water would just stay in and wouldn’t slosh around when I walked. Why try any harder when I got a dragon to help.
I saw him in his flower field, lazy dragon. His guests will arrive at sundown soon and he’s not even being a good host and help prepare his home.
“Hey, Rahmal! Care to help me a little” Ask nicely, he tends to whine less if I do.
“With what, Cooking? Told you a few days ago I don-”
“No dragon with the water for the tea.” Its like when I say ‘tea’ it’s a magic word to get him moving, don’t know why. But he helped me get the big pot and fill it with water. In the kitchen Muru helped me with the cakes, which for the guests, will be more like cup cakes. I was confused to find big pots and skillets but normal sized cake pans, anyway.
“Smells good, just cakes?”
“Why you want something more?” I think I sounded annoyed. “It wont get done in time for you guests. Oh I forgot to ask, were are they going to sit? I see no chairs or tables”
“No cakes are fine but to answer your second question…” He walked to the wall near the kitchen an pushed on it and it opened. All I could think of was ‘wow’ and ‘hope I don’t have to clean that now’.
“Don’t tell me there’s more places like this that I missed, I hope that’s clean!” I took a moment to har my self, I actually CARE if something’s clean or not. It sounds weird but I feel rude if I let guests eat on a dirty table.
“Ay don’t worry yar little head off dear its fine, dust couldn’t get in thar, tis blocked off.” Muru added and she filled in a pan with batter, for a little thing she sure is strong. Rahmal was staring at me for some reason.
“What?”
“Your cloths, they look…dingy” Oh yeh I forgot I looked like **BAN ME PLEASE?***, I sighed and re-looked at my dress. Holed everywhere, dirt, clean enough to cook but dirty enough to notice.
“Care to give me a new dress?” Hoping there was one some where I could ware, if not I would have to grin a bare it when the guests come. Couldn’t help but cringe at the thought.
“Can it wait?”
“Wait! You expect me to look like this?” He was walking out of cave, I fallowed cause I like arguing about not looking like **BAN ME PLEASE?***, that was a little sarcasm there.
“Guests are hear.” Oh no.
Griffin was first with a lion in its paws, I was surprised at that never seen either creature in person before. They landed in the field as if they’ve been here before and knew Rahmal’s rule ‘stay on the path’. Lion walked as if he really was a king a sort of elegant step in his heals, the griffin seemed more like a goof ball talking to the lion as they got closer about the silly hyenas trying to dance the zebra. It seemed like ramble to me, the lion took no notice of it.
“Kirah may in introduce the king of the grass lands of Africa Simhanadraja, he also goes by Simha for short. His air guardian Arlo.”
“Air guardian?”
“Yes, from the sky he watches for attacks and food for Simha’s pride, also helps him move around as you can see. They have been long time friends”
“Ah Rahmal, so kind of you to introduce me.” The lion talked like a king to. “Oh, no wonder your introducing me. And who is this?” I can tell he was looking at my dress, he was quite intimidating. For a lion he was quite big a little shorter than me but eye level really, griffin of coarse was much taller a few feet really shorter than Rahmal.
“A slave of yours?” Stupid griffin said as he poked me “A bit shabby, no?”
“Hey, excuse me yo-”
“You best hold your tongue!” Geez Rahmal, don’t expect me to shut up forever!
______________________________________________________
Later on we seated or more like I seated them as the lion and griffin continued to talk about there lands, whiled they stared at me off and on. I didn’t like that but I kept my mouth shut.
“Here’s the last of the guests with one extra!” Said Rahmal “Elder dragon Arlumu and his nephew Syth.” Syth was brought because the elder thought it would be a good experience for him if he was to be a caption. All seated at the table they waited till me and Muru served them there tea and cakes.
“For a human, she works quite well.” Elder dragon, green with some chin hair for his age suited him. I liked him when he looked at me he didn’t give me a look like ‘wow could she look any worse’ he ended up looking at Rahmal at the other end of the table looking as if ‘you couldn’t at lease make her presentable?’ It was a embarrassing a bit, but at lease some one was on my side, I think. Rahmal said I had to leave but I hid so I listened to the conversation. What? I had nothing else better to do.
“So how should we begin?” Rahmal, so clueless, you invited them with out knowing what to talk about? The lion started.
“All of our lands are being plotted against for war”
“Yes, from a very unknown, yet known source” Arlo stated. “I flew around Africa on a mission and ended up finding something odd. I saw fields of barren sand that was once trees parts of Zambia and Angola, mountains in Kenya reaped of there rescores and seas surrounding Madagascar that is normally full of nutrients, have lost almost all of there animals in and around the island” He said it with concern, and I can see why, things are disappearing! Arlumu the elder added,
“You have traveled far and to many parts of your country,” He lit up a cigarette, in stories most elder dragons guarding there treasure will spend most of there time smoking and sleeping when not eating and telling riddles to animals or dragons. “but I have a question when you say ‘unknown yet known’ what do you mean by that?”
“He means,” the lion rose to speak, they all seem to do rise when they talk, all but the elder. “that we think we know who is doing this but yet we are unsure, because of the damage.”
“Then who is doing it do you think?”
“Hydras was my first guess when Arlo told me about she seas, but they cannot travel far into land to do damage to the forest let alone climbs mountains. Then my next guess was-”
“I don’t want guesses I want your final opinion of who it was.” For being old as was, he sure can be stern. The lion looked down as if he didn’t want to say it.
“My final opinion that I talked about it through my pride and others was…dragons” Syth stood up, his black scales shone in the fire light, it was odd it was like they were red and blue as well, it was more at the end of each scale really. I cant explain how something can look black and yet have blue and red on him, and with that weird outfit came green eyes and red horns as well as spines on his back. But he took a sip of tea and smiled.
“The tea is splendid, but anyway why do you think dragons are at fault? Not Chimeras, or phoenixes?”
“Cant be either, chimeras are banished for thousand years only way to get them is to summon them, phoenixes have never stole things from mountains nor do they fly to islands or are even in Africa it self.”
“What about the other lands?” Syth spoke slyish as if he had a answer for everything, he seemed quit calm.
“Yes,” Rahmal jumped in. “There are other places that have the same things happening to them, dwarfs are worried there will be no mountains left to dig for treasures, brownies will soon have no mushrooms to find in deep forests as well as Tatar is worrying about there forest in the middle east its nearly gone.”
The Arlumu puffed his cigarette some more, thinking about all the chaos that is happening, strange that I never noticed or heard of any change.
“Melanesian’s seas are changing, Elves are finding it hard to help protect a forest under attack of a invisible fiend, guardians of times past and present that still are around, are confused about this problem and what to do and who is doing it and why.”
Arlo stood up “Were all wanting do know what this ‘thing’ and what’s it doing with all these resources. But I think if we can find were the resources are going, if we can find that…”
“If we can find that” Shimha continued “That will be the biggest piece in this puzzle that we need.”
Arlumu finally stood up him self, “Rahmal my young friend…we need are king back, you are the only one who can talk with the wind, read the stars and hear the flowers sing. In my years that I could never do. You have a power we need. You cannot hide any longer, I know your still hurt but a war will soon begin and solders need a king to lead them.” Everyone was quiet for a while just staring at Rahmal.
‘king?’ but there’s nothing kingly about him! Rahmal was still, looking down I couldn’t tell if he was thinking or troubled, most likely both. Couldn’t help but think that if Rahmal was a king , then why didn’t anyone treat him like one? He seemed to sit and watch the conversation most of the time. No one bowed or said ‘sir’ or ’royalty’ He treated them more like royalty than anything else. But I guess they do things differently here.
After a few long minuets, he begin to speak. “My loss has nothing to do with any of this so I advise you keep it out of this conversation and future conversations from now on Arlumu.” He picked his head up as if he took on a new personality “If dragons ‘are’ the fault then we shal hold a meeting of all the dragons.”
“But that would be impossible! There are far to many of you to count!” Arlo exclaimed.
“Not impossible, you should know that dragons are never late to anything and if they are they brings gifts. But I’m not after gifts, we will hold a meeting in Caucasus mountains, so dragons all around will have almost the same distance to fly. Any that is late or fails to show up will be under a automatic suspicion.”
Syth came around the table near the Shimha, “And what will we do when everyone is present?”
“Then we will talk about something, that I personally want to talk with in the first place with all the dragons.”
“How will you tell all the dragons about the meet?”
“Didn’t the elder tell you that I can talk to flowers, wind, animals? Every dragon can understand at least one but not all. I will simply tell the flowers to tell the earth about it, the wind to tell the trees the spread it around to the birds and so on.”
“Ah, I see why you are king.”
The elder laughed a bit, smoke falling out of his nose and teeth. “My dear nephew, he is not king for his connections he is king because he is Dragoon and has the ability to gain almost any power he desirers.”
“You don’t say?” I didn’t like how he said that, as if Rahmal was the one doing this so called destruction in the first place, that Rahmal was the one to be suspicious. I can see why, if he can have any power he wants.
____________________________________________________
Over the night I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t stop thinking about the so called ‘king’. And speaking of king, he couldn’t stop pacing around the cave. Don’t blame him, having the weight of making a gathering of dragons must be hard. I watched him as he went by my room, he was going out side so I decided to fallow him. Why not?
His scales shown in the half moon, it was oddly bright. The lunar flowers aglow, and so were his eyes, pondering at the sky. He sat there tail twitching with the occasional sigh.
“You should be sleeping.” I’m not good at sneaking around apparently, the flowers must have told him I was there I guess, if he really could talk to them. “Come on, what are you doing out here? Other than sneaking up on me.”
“I was wondering what was keeping you up at these hours.” He merely huffed.
“Nothing, just a ache in my belly. No need to worry.”
“Maybe I can make you something to settle it then?” I knew he was lying, after a meeting like that: problems with the lands, leader of the mythical creatures and apparently missing something if I remember right from the conversation. It must be troubling, it sounded as if he was hiding from as well. Something important, maybe a old friend died for all I will know.
“No, I have had aches before, I just need to walk it out. But really you must get to bed, you have lots of um… cleaning to do.”
“Not really, got most of it done after the guests left. Besides, you look like you need some company” Dear god don’t ask me why I’m being nice to this dragon. Maybe I had a little empathy for something that destroyed my village time and time again. No clue, but I felt as if I had to be there for him.
“I don’t need company, I need answers.”
“About what.” I acted as if I didn’t know what he was talking about. But he took a big sigh and,
“Kirah… I am a king of all myths. From birth I was made, chosen and raised for this position. And as my duty I keep balance in the lands so the mortals or non-myths don’t have to.”
“So your stressed out over being a king?”
“Not entirely,” He looked at the night sky as if it could help him answer or explain his situation “Some one is trying to create a army to take over the myth’s place. Demons I want to say, but not sure.”
“Why?”
“They must think were not doing it right or they want a turn of control of this world.”
“Why?” yeh I know I sound like a kid asking that over again but I really couldn’t think of any other way to ask that.
“Why? Why not? We myths have had control of the earth for centuries, why do you think there’s little sayings like ‘knock on wood’? That‘s so the wood myths wake up and hear them. We control so much as to change luck it self, but only to the lands and how they move and mortals”
“Why do you call your self’s ‘myths’?”
“Dragons,” He made a blue puff of smoke come from his claws, it was neat how he did it, it glowed to and made his words come to life, “Phoenixes, hydras, elf’s, werewolves, nagaas, serpents, sphinxes, griffins the list goes on.” He made a picture of all that he named . “We all connect and create: the land the wind ,fire water, forest, mountains. We make it all, why wouldn’t anyone want that power?”
“Where do you come in? If your king of myths.”
“Me? I make sure that not one creature has more power than the other. I limit how much, power a myth can have and make agreements. I protect everything to. That’s why its my duty as a King of myths to protect them.”
“So you personally do all this.”
“Not all, when there’s wars, of coarse one cant fight a hundred.”
“But I thought you had powers that could to any-” My fat mouth.
“So you were listening?” I looked away, I didn’t want to see the scowl I might be getting. “No use hiding anything anymore, you are working for me and deserve to know, I guess.” Still didn’t like the fact that he said ‘working for him’ but at least he’s not mad at me…I think.
“So… there ‘is’ war, isn’t there.”
“There soon will be.” He said it as if it were a curse to. ‘Poor Rahmal, you have the weight of everything on your shoulders. I have no idea how you must feel.’
“And you probably never will”
“Hm?” What’s he talking about?
“You will probably never will know the burden I hold.”
“You can read minds now!” I was a bit mad at that for some reason. Probably didn’t want the dragon to know I care, though I still didn’t know why.
“I can’t read minds, you said it out loud.”
“Oh…” How embarrassing.
“Change of subject, Kirah” He turned to look at me “I’m sorry for the damage I have done to your village. Humans, they just have took something from me that I want back.”
“And what would that be?” A bit cross at the sudden change and the subject that it changed to. He looked back to the sky again, with the most sadist dragon face I ever saw, the first time I really saw much emotion from him.
“I want my little wyrmling, my daughter back.” His daughter! You mean…he… why is he telling me this! This is…
“What did they do?” I was kind of afraid to ask, I knew that people hated dragons the most, and I knew what they normally did to them.
“They killed my mate for her blood, a foolish wizard needed it for a pointless spell!” He attacked the ground with his paw as if he whacked the wizard him self just now. “They had machines that threw arrows at her, she was just flying by… she never harmed humans, there was no reason other that her blood. She flew back home for refuge, they fallowed cornered her and killed her.” He was trying to hold everything back I could tell.
“I came home from a meeting in china…” Bared his teeth from the memory, why are you telling me this. You could have just left it as ‘they took something from me’ I would have been fine with that, you don’t have to tell me this.
“Everywhere is her blood, I was devastated and shattered. I couldn’t function, and I withdrawn from being king leaving it to the elders, what was the point? I searched days for my chick, she was so young I couldn’t image what they might have been doing to her. The more I thought the more I was put into rage!”
“I’m…sorry, I didn’t know. You didn’t have to tell me all that, you know?”
He took a big sigh, so’s to hide back the pain. “Yes, I did have to tell you, you needed to know why I attacked you and every village, but I stopped, I am king again and cannot be bothered by my past”
Not only did he fail as a king to protect things that are happening now, he failed to protect his family.
“Rahmal…”
“Help me think of what to say to invite dragons to a meeting.” Obviously wanting to change the subject again, I don’t blame him.
“Ok.”
______________________________________________
Rahmal advised the dragons of there meeting at Caucasus mountains, he was getting prepared.
“Rahmal take me with you.”
“No.”
“Why not?” He was going though his books in his library that I didn’t know existed, I’m still wondering how many hidden rooms there are.
“Oi why dun you just take har with chu? Can’t beh tat big of ah deal.” Muru stood from afar so’s not to get trampled
“I said no and that’s final!”
“Your being so unfair, dragon.”
“Please leave me alone I’m looking for something.”
“Yar pendent dear?”
“Yes.”
“Your looking for a pendent in a library?” Found that to be odd.
“Yes is there a problem with that?”
“Well unless its in a book I don’t think you will find that here.”
“Oh and I suppose ‘you’ know where it is?
“As a matter of fact I’m not completely sure but… just fallow me.” I took him to my room. “I didn’t know where your treasure room was so I could put it in there so I-”
“You kept it here and didn’t tell me?” He seemed cross. “No matter, it found and that’s all I need.” He took it from me and put it on a lovely velvet necklace. He had a assort of bracelets and he had his crown him a sack with other kingly things, I guess he wanted to make a good impression on coming back as king.
“You don’t think this I too much do you Muru?” Obliviously worried on his impression.
“Not in the lease, you look…what’s the word I’m looking for? She sat there pondering, I thought I would help,
“Hansom?”
“Yesh, a fine hansom dragon! Tank you Kirah.” He did look hansom for a dragon, he cleaned up his scales, they were still a bit dull but he said that’s because he use to spend much time in the cave when he wasn’t flying round, I guess dragon scales get shiny in the sun like I get tan I suppose.
He stood there, proud and a bit worried looking. I couldn’t really tell if he was happy or not.
“Y…you look nice, Rahmal.”
“Thank you Kirah.”
Later I made him a meal before he left and some tea of coarse. I talked to Muru in the kitchen while he sat at his table.
“I really wish he didn’t have leave.”
“Grown attached to him ay?”
“I guess.” Not really I don’t think, I just know from experience from my dad that being a king is hard work and very stressful.
“Dun worry, he was born for this job.”
“Why does everyone keep saying that?”
“Because he was dear, he’s a dragoon you know? All dragons before they hatch are dragoons but loose that and become regular dragons. Rahmal on the other hand has to have the right conditions be met in order to keep his dragoon. He lost most of it but was enough to make him a leader.”
“How does becoming a dragoon make him a leader?”
“Dragoons have the power to learn any power over time, with this he can understand almost every species of myths, that helps a lot when there’s problems among myths.”
“Whys that?”
“If you know the powers of a myth you know what there going through and why. Its odd really, I still don’t get it all. But not only that they normally work best under pressure.”
“So only dragons that are dragoons can me kings?” I sighed, but I still didn’t want him to leave, other than the burdened of being a king I couldn’t figure out why I cared.
The dragon set off he ran through the mountain as if it were nothing but steps, he was oddly fast. Ran through the fields and flew over lakes as wells as villages. How do I know this? I’m hidden in his bag on his back watching it all. Took nearly four days of being still and hungry. I thought we were going to fall of the edge of the world if we went much farther. But of coarse we didn’t, we finally reached the Caucasus mountains, the tallest I’ve ever seen, cold too. I was only able to keep warm with Rahmal’s handkerchief. He was escorted by two dragons on the way. I hear them talk about the ‘elders palace in the Himalayas was much better than this one’ and ‘why he didn’t pick that one instead’ Rahmal didn’t say much, I wondered why?
Anyway I feel asleep some how in that cold and woke up to, “Kirah! What the bloody hell are you doing in there!” I was a bit dazed so his angry dragon attitude didn’t effect me just yet till I got a look at him from the opening in the bag.
“Oh um…hello, Rahmal.” What was there to say? ‘Hey Rahmal! Yeh I just became a stole away because I thought you need some company and….’
“Kirah I have no time for your excuses I must leave now, hand me my pendant!” Claws so angry I handed him his pendent and his velvet necklace that I was using as a blanket. He walked of and left me after he told me to, “Stay in here and don’t touch anything!” slammed the door and it was quiet.
After my daze I decided to look around out of the bag.
The room was huge! Meant for a dragon no less, I‘m sure. There was a big bed I was on, gold everywhere and limestone too. It was so pretty, gems in places that complemented the gold nicely. But Rahmal told me to stay here, I had no problem with that other than the fact that I’m a eavesdropper for the most part, so I had to sneak out to see what is going on.

________________________________________________________
