okay ive been writing a book for a week or two, and i wanted you guys to see it and give your opinion.
It's called Dragon Claw and its about dragons.
Chapter 1
Aylon sniffed the ground as he tracked the small rat. Something wasn’t right here. This wasn’t the smell of rat, but he saw it! He knew he saw the rat! This was an odd smell. Like the smell of the elders’ breath. He continued down the path to a small clearing. Something rumbled in the distance. Thunder? No. Thunder is louder. Earthquake? Doubt it. This was no ordinary rumble. Aylon ran as fast as he could back to the village, but the closer he got, the louder the rumbling.
Right smack in the middle of his village was one giant, one eyed something. It was ravaging through the village destroying buildings and killing and, eating? The monster was eating Aylon’s brethren! What was it though? He knew nothing about it, so he wasn’t sure if he wanted to flee, or try to stop it. He decided to flee and try to find his father and his friends.
“Aylon! Aylon! Over here!” Hiding behind a bush, was Aylon’s friend Heckle.
“What are you doing here Heckle?” Aylon whispered so the monster wouldn’t hear them. “You should be running away from the village!”
“I know.” Heckle said. “But I thought that I would stay here so when you got back I could show you where everyone went.”
“Shhhh. We’re trying not to get eaten, remember?” Aylon whispered.
Heckle motioned for Aylon to follow. Neither of them said a word until they got about a mile away from the village.
“They are over in that cave across the canyon.” Heckle said. In front of them was a huge canyon. Aylon guessed it was about two miles in width and no one knows how far it went. On the other side of the canyon was a small cave. That’s where they wanted to go.
“How are we going to get over there?” Aylon questioned. “There isn’t a bridge. And plus, our wings haven’t grown in yet. All I have is stubs.”
“There is a small gap in the smallest part of the canyon.” Heckle told him. “It’s small enough for us to jump over it. Your father even got the elders over.”
“Alright. Let’s get moving before that monster tracks our scent and follows us.” Aylon said. He hoped that Heckle was right about the gap. He didn’t want to crawl down into that canyon. He gazed over at the cave in the distance. His father was in there. He would be safe and sound. Maybe his father would tell him what that monster was.
In a few hours they were at the gap. Heckle was right. It was just small enough for them to jump over it.
“I’ll go first,” Heckle said.
“Are you sure?” asked Aylon.
“Yes.” Heckle replied.
Heckle took a couple steps back from the edge. He started running and leaped over the gap.
“See? It’s easy!” He said from across the gap. “Your turn!”
Aylon sighed and took a couple steps back. He took deep breaths to calm his nervousness down. He started running and stopped right at the edge.
“I can’t do it.” Aylon said.
“What? Yes you can!” Heckle replied. “Remember? Your father is over there!”
This gave Aylon new strength. He loved his dad like nothing else in the world. Losing his dad would devastate him.
He repeated the process that he did before, but this time, he jumped. He felt his claws touch the ground and he laughed.
“That was fun!” Aylon laughed.
“Yeah! See, I told you it was easy!” Heckle said.
Just then the ledge beneath them crumbled from underneath their claws. They yelped and writhed as they hit the ground underneath piles of broken rock.
Chapter 2
Aylon awoke at the chattering sound of a chipmunk. His bones were sore all over. He tried to lift himself from the ground but couldn’t. His legs were too weak from the fall. He remembered jumping the gap. He remembered the monster. Even the elders and his father. His father! Aylon pushed himself onto all four legs. He had to find his father! But first, he had to find out where he was. Then, he would have to find a way to his father. All alone. Wait a minute! He still had Heckle! If he could find him, then they could travel together!
Aylon heard some moaning by the canyon wall. That had to be Heckle! He ran over to the moaning. Sure enough, there was Heckle, all broken and beat up, but definitely alive.
“Heckle! Heckle are you okay?” Aylon asked him, but all he heard in reply was moaning. “Heckle! Talk to me buddy!”
“Uhnng.” garbled Heckle.
“We’re going to get you out of here.” said Aylon. He pushed the boulder off of Heckle’s tail and moved it far away from him. Aylon laid down next to Heckle and waited for him to recover.
After a while, Heckle could talk and move a little bit. He could stand up, but he couldn’t walk. So Aylon carried him on his back. Where are we supposed to go? Should I follow the river to a less steep canyon? Ah, I wish my father was here. Aylon made his guess and followed the river downstream. He knew which direction he was going because he paid close attention to it in school just in case something like this would happen. If only Heckle could walk, this would be so much easier.
After about six long hours of walking, Aylon decided that they should camp here. He should be able to walk longer in the morning because Heckle should have his strength back. Aylon stepped over to a small ledge and laid Heckle there. He walked over to a small bush and fell fast asleep.
Aylon was up bright and early the next morning. He had to get moving. He went over to Heckle’s small shelter and tried to wake up Heckle.
“Hey Heckle! Wake Up! We have to get moving!” Aylon yelled. “Wake Up! You sleepy head! If you don’t wake up, I’ll just leave you here!” Aylon waited for a reply. Nothing. He checked Heckle’s breathing and could feel nothing. He then checked his friend’s pulse. Nothing. Heckle was dead. “Heckle! No! You can’t leave me! I’ll be all alone! No friends or anything on my way to find my father! Heckle!” Aylon sobbed, but it was useless. He had to go on by himself.
Aylon walked for hours and hours, but the canyon never got wider or narrower. He took breaks every so often, but he tried to move as fast as he could because each hour that passed, he missed his father more and more.
Soon, it was dusk. Aylon knew he had to find a way out of the canyon soon, or he may not be able to find his way back to the cave. He walked up to the wall. There was no way he could climb this. It is way too steep. If only he had wings! He only had little stubs where his wings were growing in. Aylon sighed. His father was probably missing him. Maybe he even sent search parties for him and Heckle. They would have to move fast if they were going to find Aylon.
Aylon thought about the monster. Why had it attacked his village? Why not the village that is just north of his? What was it? Why was it so big? Why did it eat dragons? All of these questions flew around in his head as he tried to answer them. His father would know. Maybe once Aylon gets back they will go and kill it. Maybe they won’t. Maybe they will just go farther east and make another village.
Aylon had too many thoughts running through his head. He needed to rest. He walked over to the canyon wall and laid down. He needed to find his father. Aylon closed his eyes and tried to go to sleep. He tossed and turned, but never got comfortable. He was too anxious to find his father.
The sun was down and it was almost pitch black when Aylon heard a strange roar.
Chapter 3
Aylon heard another roar in the distance.
“That’d better not be the monster.” Aylon told himself. Maybe it came for Heckle’s remains. Aylon felt bad for his friend. He had done nothing wrong. Aylon wondered what he had done to deserve this fate.
Another roar. This time it sounded closer. That didn’t sound like the monster though. That sounded like a dragon! Possibly a search party! He may see his father yet!
Aylon scrambled to his feet and ran into the middle of the canyon. What could he do to get the dragons’ attention? He could roar, but they probably won’t hear it because he hasn’t fully matured yet. Make a fire? No, he didn’t have time.
Aylon saw three dragons flying overhead, and all he could do was jump and shout.
“Hey! Hey! I’m down here! It’s me! Aylon! Come and get me!” Aylon screeched. They couldn’t hear him. He was hopelessly lost in the canyon. He sighed and walked over to a rock and climbed on top it. He laid down and started crying. He missed his father more than anything. He wanted to go home.
“Hey. What’s wrong? I saw you yelling at those dragons. Can I help you?” A small snake was curled up beside him.
“No, you’re just a snake. You probably can’t help me.” Aylon sobbed.
“Just tell me. I’ll try my best to help you.” The snake said. “And by the way, my name is Gorble.”
“I have to get to the top of this canyon to get to my father.” Aylon explained. “Those dragons that were flying overhead were a search party. They were looking for me, but I couldn’t yell loud enough. You see, I’m not a fully grown dragon yet.”
“How did you get down here in the first place?” asked Gorble.
Aylon told the snake the whole story. He told him about the monster, the village, Heckle, everything.
“Wow. You’re a long way from home then” said Gorble.
“Yeah.” replied Aylon.
“Well, there is a way out of here, but it’s south about four miles.” said the snake. “Do you want me to come with you?”
“Yeah, I could use a new friend.” said Aylon. “And Gorble?”
“Yes?” asked the snake.
“Thanks.” Replied Aylon. “Thank you.”
“You are welcome.” said Gorble.
When the two friends got to the exit of the canyon, they met one of the most gruesome, ugliest-looking troll they had ever seen. He was approximately eight feet tall, he had a nose ring, his ears were torn up, and he was really smelly.
“Excuse us, but we need to get past you so we can get out of the canyon.” said the snake.
“You not pass me! Me Freygo! No one passes Freygo without payment!” rumbled the troll.
“Well I’m afraid we don’t have any money,” said Aylon.
“Then you not pass.” said Freygo the troll.
“Is there anything we can do to get pass you?” asked Gorble. “Like maybe try to catch a gremlin?”
“Well, there is one thing you can do.” said the troll.
“And what’s that?” questioned the snake.
“You gotta kill a dragon and bring him back to Freygo.” laughed Freygo.
Chapter 4
“What?” asked Aylon. “We can’t do that! Killing a dragon is like killing my cousin!”
“You do that or you not pass.” rumbled Freygo. “You at least bring dragon scale for proof! It not be one of black dragon either!”
“Aylon, listen. There’s a red dragon nest down the canyon a bit.” said Gorble. “Maybe we could get a dragon scale off of them.”
“I don’t know Gorble,” said Aylon. “Red dragons are supposedly the strongest of all the dragons. It would be extremely dangerous. And I don’t think they’ll just let us rip a scale off of their hides.”
“Well, whatever you are going to do, I’m going to stay here.” said the snake. “I’ll make sure this troll doesn’t play any tricks on us.”
“Alright, fine.” mumbled Aylon. “I’ll be back in a while.” And with that, Aylon trundled off to the red dragon nest.
Why did he have to be a black dragon? Rumors went around that black dragons were the weakest dragons in the world. The only good advantage is he is stealthier during the night.
After hours and hours of walking, Aylon wondered if Gorble was lying to make him get lost and die. No, Gorble isn’t like that. He’s a nice snake. He wouldn’t do something like that to Aylon.
Soon, Aylon came upon a small tunnel guarded by two monstrously large, red dragons. He guessed that at the end of the tunnel there was a big clearing and small caves to sleep. That’s how red dragon nests were formed. He had to get in there and get a red dragon scale, but there was no way he would get past those guards. He would have to wait until dark. He probably wouldn’t be able to get a scale off of those guards because the nest probably chose light sleepers so that they will wake up if anything comes near. Aylon would have to get inside the nest, get a scale, and get out of the nest as fast as possible so that he wouldn’t be in there when daytime came around.
The sun was down when Aylon decided that the guards were asleep. He walked as quietly as he could past the guards. Soon he was outside of the tunnel. Sure enough, there was a clearing and small caves, just as his father described it. Where would he get the dragon scale though? He walked over to a cave and peered into it.
Inside, was a family of four. A father, a mother, and two hatchlings. Aylon never knew his mother. His father just said that she died giving birth to him. Was this true, or was his father lying to him? Aylon discarded the thought and moved to a different cave. Inside this one was an elderly looking dragon that was all alone. Aylon decided to get the scale from him. Aylon stealthily moved closer and ripped the scale from the dragon’s hide and fast as he could. The dragon stirred in his sleep a little, but did not wake up. Aylon sighed with relief. He turned around and he became face to face with a small, reddish-brown form of a dragon that seemed to be Aylon’s age.
“Hi!” squeaked the dragon. “What are you doing with that scale? Who are you? Why are you here?”
“Uhh, promise you won’t tell anyone.” whispered Aylon. “I stole this scale from one of your elders so I could find my father. My name is Aylon.”
“I’m Faunya.” she said proudly. “Can I come with you?”
“I’m sorry Faunya, but I think it’s too dangerous.”
“Come on! Please?” plead Faunya. “I’ve been on lots of adventures and I’m still here aren’t I?”
“Won’t your parents come looking for you?” asked Aylon.
“Nope!” said the girl dragon. “My parents don’t care!”
Nice Parents. thought Aylon.
“Fine.” said Aylon. “You can come with me.”
Chapter 5
Aylon and Faunya quickly became friends on their way back to the troll. They told stories about themselves, and their ancestors. Aylon learned that Faunya was only a year younger than him. She told stories about her mother and father and about her grandpa that supposedly caught a gremlin.
They walked for hours and hours, but Aylon knew where he was going because he had been through this way before.
When they finally came upon the troll, he was smiling to himself, and Gorble was nowhere to be seen.
“All Right. What did you do with Gorble?” inquired Aylon.
“Who?” the troll asked.
“Gorble! The snake that was here earlier!” said Aylon. “You didn’t eat him did you?”
“Snaky? Nuh uh. Freygo not eat snakes.” grumbled the troll. “Snakes poison Freygo. He ran away. Snaky afraid.”
“Well whatever happened to him, I hope he’s okay.” said Aylon. He handed the red dragon scale to the troll. “Here’s your dragon scale. Now let us pass.”
“Oh! Goodie! Freygo like shiny scales!” said Freygo. The ugly troll moved aside. “Here you go.”
“Stupid troll.” Aylon muttered to himself as they walked past Freygo.
When they exited the canyon, it was just as Aylon thought it would look like. Mountains about a half of a mile away from them to the east, the canyon behind them, and more mountains to the south.
“Where is the cave?” asked Faunya.
“North. A long way north.” said Aylon. “I’m guessing about 60 miles.”
Aylon and Faunya walked until nighttime. When it was night, they would stop and sleep under the stars. They walked for 3 days. On the fourth day, they could see the cave. They moved a little faster when they saw the cave because Aylon was anxious to see his father.
Aylon was surprised not to see any dragons on guard outside of the cave. In fact, there was no one in the entrance or even near it. He couldn’t see anyone. Aylon and Faunya walked into the cave and searched it thoroughly. There was not a single dragon in sight. Not even any scratch marks or carvings to show that they were there. Was their entire journey useless? Aylon sighed and sat down on a ledge portraying from the wall.
“I’ll never find my father.” sighed Aylon.
“Of course you will!” exclaimed Faunya. “You must never give up!”
Aylon considered the thought. “I guess we could search the-“
Aylon was interrupted in mid-speech by a loud, thunderous roar.
Behind them, right next to the canyon, was the one eyed, smelly dragon-eater. But he wasn’t focused on them. He was looking down at a small figure. Aylon squinted and he could make out the form of a dragon. A dragon! Maybe it came for him! He had to go help it!
“Faunya, stay here.” said Aylon. “I need to go help that dragon.”
Aylon ran down the hill towards the dragon-eating monster. When he got there he started yelling at the monster.
“Hey! You!” Aylon shouted. The monster looked at him. “Yeah you! Come and get me!” Aylon pointed at the other dragon. “You! Dragon! Run to the cave behind me!”
Then dragon nodded and started running towards Aylon.
Only then, did Aylon recognize the dragon.
It was Heckle!
how do ya like it? ;D me iz proud of it! i need an idea of what happens next though. you guys are lucky cuz you are one of the first ppl to see it ^.^
It's called Dragon Claw and its about dragons.
